Our story
From Sylius to Marketlum
Marketlum grew out of more than a decade as a founder: building an open-source company, running it without managers, and experimenting with self-organisation ever since.
2011
Sylius begins
Paweł starts Sylius, an open-source eCommerce framework built on Symfony. It grows into a community of developers and companies around the world.
2017
Sylius becomes a company
The team founds Sylius as a product company in Łódź, and in September ships Sylius 1.0, its first stable release.
2018
Self-organised with Holacracy
In March, Sylius ratifies the Holacracy Constitution and starts running without traditional managers.
2019 – 2022
Intensive experimentation
The team experiments with distributed authority, self-directed compensation and autonomous business units (circles).
2023
A purpose crisis
Building eCommerce no longer excites Paweł. Building the future of self-organisation does. He sells the company.
Today

Marketlum
Paweł starts Marketlum to distill what he learned from his entrepreneurial journey into methodology and tooling for self-organising businesses, run by people and AI agents.
